Schedule Exceptions

Schedule exceptions are events, whether one day or multiple days, in which regular unlock schedules differ. Schedule exception use cases include holidays, trainings, or other unique days throughout the year.

Exception groups allow users to create groups of one or more days (ex. Federal Holidays) that will override regular unlock schedules. Within these groups users can add up to 13 separate events in which the unlock schedule is overridden.

To create a new exception group:

  1. Navigate to Configuration → Schedules on the left navigation bar

  2. Click on Exceptions tab

  3. Click Add Exception Group

  4. Enter the name of the Exception Group and click Save

  5. Click on the newly created Exception Group

  6. Click New Exception

  7. Enter the name of the Exception as well as the Start and End Dates (note: for single day exceptions the start and end date can be the same) and click Save

Assign a Schedule Exception to a Schedule

In order for a regular unlock schedule to be overridden, exception groups must be assigned to specific schedules. To do so:

  1. Navigate to Configuration → Schedules on the left navigation bar

  2. Click on the schedule to which you want to assign the exception group

  3. Click the Modify Exceptions button

  4. Select the exception group(s) you want to add and click Save

  5. To remove an exception from a schedule, simply click the Modify Exceptions button and click the “X” next to the exception group you want to remove

The schedule to which the exception group is assigned will be overridden on the days chosen within the exception group.

FAQ

How many Exception Groups can be created?

You can create up to 8 Exception Groups. We recommend creating groups such as “Federal Holidays” or “Trainings” that will span multiple years and events.

What is the difference between Temporary Door Modes and Exceptions?

Temporary Door Modes start immediately and can last for a custom amount of time. An Exception is a scheduled event that overrides an unlock schedule for the entirety of the day.

How do I know if a door is currently in a Schedule Exception?

There are multiple locations within the Alloy Access platform that will indicate which doors are currently in an exception. Exceptions will be highlighted with a banner message as well as on the Events page and in the Door table.

Are Schedule Exceptions available in SmartRent Manager?

Exceptions can only be created in Alloy Access. Doors currently in a Scheduled Exception will be visible on the Events page and Doors page in SmartRent Manager.

How will we enhance Schedule Exceptions in the future?

We have a number of ideas like CSV uploads, variable hours, access privileges and more, but we really want to hear your ideas! Send them to our support team!
