Hardware

XS4 - The XS4 by Salto electronic lock works with most mortise locks and is designed to fit most standard doors. These locks provide a wire-free lock configuration with no hard wiring required. The XS4 is a typical sized locking solution, providing an option for most standard doors.

AElement - The Element lock is a smaller RFID lock option that is compatible with most standard and mortise locks and is designed to fit most standard doors. These locks provide a sleek, minimalist and wire-free option, allowing for customization of the door handle and other finishes.

PPD - Portable Programming Device, is needed anytime there is an update required on the Salto Locks (such as firmware, configuration). Using the PPD you will need to manually insert the 3-pronged device into the front of the Salto Lock to ensure it has been updated. It serves as the messenger between the computer and the lock itself.

Salto Encoder - A device used to scan/encode cards with their proper Salto credentials. This will enroll Salto Devices into the Salto Network. The encoder should be placed at or near the computer the site team will be using in order to move-in residents and issue credentials, not in a back closet or office.

The following section contains descriptions of the various property settings that can be enabled for the Salto Integration.

Property Settings

Prospect Property & Unit Access - If enabled, each prospect that creates a tour will have BLE credentials generated for them. If disabled, BLE credentials will not be automatically created for a prospects tour. Prospects who are granted BLE access will be prompted to download Alloy Pass before their tour.

Guest Property Access - If enabled, each guest that is invited will have a BLE credential generated for them. If disabled, BLE credentials will not automatically be created for guests when invited. Guests will be sent a text message with a link to download Alloy Pass to gain entry into the community and unit.

Auto-Assign BLE Credential - If enabled, each resident that is moved in will have a BLE credential generated for them. If disabled, BLE will not automatically be created for residents during move-in. Residents will be able to leverage their SmartRent app for ongoing access.

Set Access Control Groups - Toggle to determine which groups have access to designated areas.

Access Types Supported

Currently Bluetooth and Key Fobs are supported for Salto Locks.

Device Mapping & Adding a Device to a Unit

Device mapping will associate a device to a unit. It’s the only way the system will know which lock to grant access to for each persona type. Follow the instructions on how to add a device to a unit

Note: Removing the device will automatically remove any associated credentials.

Mapping a Device

  1. Click the Device Mapping tab on the Alloy Access - Salto integration page

  2. Click Add Device to Unit

  3. Specify the Unit, Device and Name in the side menu and click Save

Adding a Salto Lock to a Unit

  1. Click into a unit that has had a Salto lock virtually mapped to it

  2. On the Overview page for that unit click Add a New Device in the right corner

  3. Select ‘Non Z-Wave Device

  4. Select a Salto Device that can be associated with that Unit and ‘Click Save

Salto Migrations

The migrations tabs will allow site teams to link users that already exist in a third party access control system to their corresponding SmartRent residents.

*(Use Case: You can load users from Alloy Access and see a list view of all users in Alloy Access and associate them directly with a resident by clicking the Link button)

  1. Clicking the Load Users will display a dropdown list of users pulled from Alloy Access

  2. Using the Resident dropdown site teams can select a corresponding resident to associate that Alloy Access user to

  3. Click Link button will associate that user to a resident, and any credentials that are created in SmartRent Manager will be synced between both systems

Similarly a CSV can be uploaded for this process as well using the Import button.

Salto Work Order Access

Anytime a work order is created and assigned in the SmartRent Manager, the assigned staff member will automatically be notified to ‘Visit the office to get a Fob for this unit’ if a Salto lock has been associated with the unit they are working on. The creation of a work order is exactly the same, and the visit to the office message will appear in both SmartRent Manager and SmartRent Manager Mobile for viewing.

Resident Salto Credentials

There are currently two ways a resident can receive Salto access to their home, the first is automatically through the move-in process. And the second is manually within their resident details page.

Automatic Move-Ins

Clicking the ‘Move in’ resident button on the Leases page will automatically attempt to grant resident unit access for the Salto lock associated. (This must first be enabled in your Property Settings - see Property Settings section for details).

If enabled the code will automatically be created and an email will be given to the resident on how to use their Salto lock.

If there was an error, site teams can click the retry button directly on the resident lease card to retry the process.

Move-outs will also automatically Remove any access credentials associated with the residents of that unit. And removing the Salto lock from the unit to another location will also reset the credentials.

Manually Add a Credential

  1. Click on the resident from the resident lease card view

  2. See the Credentials card on their detail page

  3. Click add credential

  4. So long as there is a common area, or a unit associated with that resident and a Salto lock exists on that unit the Generate BLE Credential will appear on a pop-up side menu.

Salto Lock Instructions

Anytime a resident is moved-in an automatic email will be sent to them to illustrate how to use their Salto Locks.

  1. Users will open their SmartRent Mobile App and ensure they are logged in

  2. Press the Unlock icon on their pass while holding your phone to the Salto Lock.

Downloading Alloy Pass

Alloy Access and Pass

  1. Download the Alloy Pass app on the iOS or Google Play store.

  2. User will enter their phone number and a verification code which will be sent via SMS

  3. User will enter verification code

  4. Alloy Pass dashboard will display bluetooth credential(s) for the lock. Once near the lock, tap the unlock icon to unlock the door

  5. Once the user returns to the app next time, they will not need to complete steps 1-3 and will just see the bluetooth pass on the dashboard.

FAQ

Q: I am seeing errors where users receive a time-out message in the ResApp while trying to unlock a door

A: Check in with the local SALTO server to see the status of the credential. It should have the correct door and/or access level associated with it. If it doesn’t, check the access levels in AA to ensure our system is provisioning the correct access to the user. If it does, it’s likely an issue with the SALTO devices themselves, and the site should rekey the locks/readers that are non-functioning.

Q: A resident doesn't open their app for 7+ days at a Salto site and loses access but still has the credential, how do we get them access again?

A: We attempt to sync over revalidated credentials once per day during the nighttime. Meaning, if a resident is opening their app after 7+ days, they will be queued for this revalidation. However, this credential still won’t work until the night time sync happens, meaning that they will have a gap in access for that date. Engineering can force sync this to between AA & CMW if needed.

Q: What is soft deletion vs hard deletion?

A: The soft deletion means that after 7 days, Salto requires some sort of revalidation. The hard deletion is when revalidation (opening the app) will no longer give the user access; the credential will need to be created again. This is usually associated with a move-out date, but support teams should check in with the local SALTO server to see the status of the credential.

Q: I am seeing errors around daylight savings time, how can I ensure everything is set up properly to avoid those problems?

A: Daylight saving time (DST) is the practice of moving clocks forward by one hour in Spring to extend light in the evening, and moving clocks back by one hour in autumn. By default, SALTO electronic locks perform these time changes automatically. However, you can disable this option if required. See Configuring DST for more information. NOTE: It is recommended that you allow the system to update for DST automatically. Otherwise, you must manually update each door with a PPD on the date of the time change.

To Configure Daylight Savings Time you can select the month, week, day, and hour when time changes occur for the default system time zone. You can also set the time changes for future years in advance if required.

To configure DST, perform the following steps:

1. Select System > Time zones. The Time zones screen is displayed.

Double-click the Default entry. The Default information screen is displayed.

Clear the default text and type a name in the Name field, for example, Daylight Saving Time. The new screen name is displayed.

Type a description for the DST in the Description field.

The Enable daylight saving time (DST) checkbox is selected by default. If you clear this checkbox and click Save, this disables the DST feature, and the DST Rule and Fixed Days options are not displayed.

Type the appropriate value in the Offset from GMT field.

This value is used to calculate the time zone according to Greenwich Mean Time.

Select either the DST Rule or the Fixed Days option.

The DST Rule option is selected by default. Both options are described in DST Options. You can click Copy to display the System world time zones dialog box and select a time zone from the list. When you do this, the Name, Description, and Offset from GMT fields, and the fields for the DST Rule option are populated with the information for the selected time zone. The fields for the DST Rule option are not populated if the time zone you select does not use DST. You must manually enter the details for the Fixed Days option on the system.

Click Save.
